After working with small groups and large bands in Ohio and Pennsylvania, John Cuddy moved to Oregon where he writes music and plays jazz piano with local bands. From the age of eight his piano recitals contained some of his own compositions. He started playing professionally at age fifteen.
John Cuddy studied classical composition at Kenyon College in Ohio with Dr. Paul Schwartz, a noted Austrian-born composer of chamber, choral, solo, and symphonic works. This mentor urged him to become a classical composer. Instead, he remained true to jazz, his first love.
John Cuddy has written nearly 800 songs, many of which have been performed publicly by various groups and bands. He wrote and recorded the music for Symbols of Ohio, an educational film used in Ohio classrooms. His weekly radio show, Jazz Notes, was nominated for Program of the Year for the Ohio Public Broadcasters Association. The Salem Pops Orchestra has performed several of his compositions.
In addition to composing and performing, John Cuddy served for many years as an executive leading complex organizations in business, government, and K-12 education.
